A Quick Word on Referrals and References
A heard a story the other day or a personal receiving a scathing email from a contact quite upset that he did not get a glowing reference for a job position he interviewed for. There are many issues withthis opening sentence; one that he made an incorrect assumption (the individual was not contacted for a reference) but as a result, I doubt he ever would give this individual a reference in the future.
It got me thinking of the importance of our work and for that matter personal relationships as the line can blur these days.
In my world, and for many of the Creative Couples on the network my most important relationships are those with my clients and vendors. With the growth of social media sometimes all it takes is a 140-character tweet or asking your Facebook friends to ‘like’ a business page. It can be easy in the business of day-to-day tasks to forget how far these actions go. The tip for today is try the next time you work with a vendor or partner with a new client to take a moment to pass onthanks or kudos their way – either privately through email or through a social media platform. Oh, and never, ever, no matter how right you think you are make an assumption without the facts, you just end up looking a fool!
